Chairobics
This is a chair based exercise activity, which is suitable for all user groups especially older people, less mobile or people who haven't done exercise for a long time.
It is performed with music, and is an excellent way to introduce people to a gentle form of exercise that they can do in their own home without the need for expensive equipment. It also gives people confidence and social contact. We try and integrate life based skill within the exercise programme ie leg strengthening for getting up out of the chair, arm strengthening for brushing hair etc.
We run the Chairobics at Wilfred Drive, which is a sheltered accommodation home, and usually have 6 ladies that attend.
In the near future, myself and Sarah Nickson from Leisure services will be looking to secure funding to put together workshops to run chair based activity classes suitable for carers, nursing home staff etc.
