You can volunteer in a variety of ways with DWB including helping out with health activities and in the office. Volunteering can help develop your skills (which can help you access paid employment and education). Volunteering also provides you with a sense of achievement and is a way of meeting new people.
Below are some of the ways you can volunteer at DWB.
Community Health Champions are volunteers whose role is to support people to eat healthily, manage their weight, be physically active and improve their mental and social well-being through engagement in group activities.
We are looking for people who are enthusiastic and willing to learn, and able to commit to volunteering for 16 hours a month (approx 4 hours per week) for at least 6 months, as well as doing some training.
You don’t have to know a lot about health, but you will need to be good at listening to people and interested in helping them to solve their problems.
You can help people to live healthier lives by providing activities, information and support, and help make your community a healthier place by finding out about local health needs - download more information here.
This volunteer opportunity provides you with useful skills, knowledge and experience, and training is also provided.
To request an application pack, complete an Expression of Interest form (word or pdf). If you need more information, please contact Lucy at Darnall Well Being on
0114 249 6315, email darnallwellbeing@rocketmail.com or drop by our office at 214 Main Road, Darnall between 10am – 1pm Mondays or Thursdays.
Active Friends
Active Friends is a scheme aimed at over 50s to help people become more active. It consists of volunteers working with individuals to encourage and support them to become more active. This ranges from accompanying someone for a walk too becoming their gym buddy. It is rewarding and you get to meet new people. Full training and support is offered.
Other Ways of Volunteering
Besides the above, you can volunteer on a more informal basis such as helping out in the office, doing one-off events or being on the Steering Group. Volunteering opportunities can be organised based on your interests and time availability. If you are interested in volunteering then please contact Lucy at DWB for further information.
